Suicide bomber kills 23, wounded 20 in DI Khan hospital explosion: IG NWFP

A powerful suicide blast ripped through the crowded Emergency Ward of District Headquarters Hospital here Tuesday, killing at least 23 people and wounding another 20, IGP NWFP Malik Naveed told reporters. The blast took place when activists of a religious sect and relatives of victim, Basit Shah who was shot dead by unknown gunmen near Faqiri gate here were gathered at gate of Emergency Ward of the hospital to protest the cold blooded murder, he added. However independence sources claimed that 25 people were killed and as many injured in the deadly explosion.
DSP Malik Mustaq is among the four other police men who sustained critical injuries. There are reports that few journalists who came to hospital to cover the protest demonstration were also among the injured.
The explosion was so powerful that human flesh of the victims was laid scattered in the hospital and its bang was heard in long distance, which created terror among the residents. The mobile of the victims were ringing while the victims started crying for help.
Emergency has been imposed in hospitals while doctors on duty were called in. Police have cordoned of the area and not body was allowed to enter.
