PM, Gen Tariq Majeed discuss defence issues
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Monday said Pakistan is playing a major role in ensuring peace in the region, adding that the government was committed to maintain minimum credible deterrence through conventional and strategic capabilities.
The Prime Minister was talking to General Tariq Majeed, Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee who called on him here at the PM House.
The Prime Minister said economic sovereignty, smooth political process, good neighbourliness and friendly international environment were the prerequisites for impregnable defence of the country.
He said the government would continue to provide all necessary support to further enhance the capabilities of armed forces to meet the defence needs of the country.
The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee apprised the Prime Minister of the performance and professional activities of the three armed services including army, air force and navy.
