Lahore stands paralyzed, as torrential rains lash the city

LAHORE: Torrential rains lashed different districts of Punjab including this capital city, which inundated several low-lying areas and water gushing into the residential areas paralyzed the normal life, as the marooned citizens remained confined.
Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif visiting the affected areas of the city thrashed the LDA and WASA high officials for their lethargy and ordered setting up emergency committee for carrying out the relief work.
Lahore besides other areas of Punjab witnessing heavy downpours since early this morning, while the accumulated rainwater soon inundated the roads and streets and several residential areas of the city went submerged under several feet of water. Gushing water into the houses damaged valuable household goods including electric items, fridge etc. Roads looked like rivers and canals, which blocked the traffic, while several vehicles were washed away. Life stands completely paralyzed, as the citizens could not go to their offices and places of business.
Lahore General Hospital’s wall caving in let the rainwater enter into the hospital and the patients had to be shifted from there. Geo News telephones kept buzzing receiving calls from all across the city complaining the administration’s failure of providing any sort of relief and succour.
