English County Yorkshire will appeal
English County Yorkshire will appeal against the decision of the ECB Cricket Discipline Commission to throw the club out of this year’s Twenty20 Cup for fielding an ineligible player.
A notification in this regard has been received from the northern England club by the England and Wales Cricket Board and the appeal will come up for hearing on July 14 at Taunton, South West England.
The club was ousted from the competition just before the start of the quarter-final when it was found that it had fielded a Pakistani player Azeem Rafiq in the game against Nottinghamshire last month.
Under the rules, the 17-year-old Azeem is unable to represent any club because he does not hold British passport and neither Yorkshire registered him as a first team player with ECB.
Nottinghamshire who were beaten in that match has been reinstated and will face Durham in the quarter-finals next week.
