PAKISTAN OFFICIALS KIDNAPPED

MIRAN SHAH—Dozens of gunmen ambushed a vehicle carrying government officials and kidnapped eight of them, including five women, in a troubled northwestern tribal region of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan, officials said yesterday. The victims had been sent to the region to carry out a survey for building schools, roads and hospitals.
