Minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour Friday underlined the need to repeal the 17th amendment and abolish the 58-2 (B) to ensure the supremacy of the Parliament, rule of law and strengthening of the nascent democracy in the country.“The government should announce the National Finance Commission (NFC) award as soon as possible in which provinces must be given more autonomy,” the minister said in an exclusive interview with APP here.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said India wanted to try again to make peace with Pakistan but Islamabad should take “strong and effective” actions to end terrorism against his country like it has done with regard to Taliban.

Speaking onboard his airplane, Manmohan Singh said if the Pakistani leadership shows “courage, determination and statesmanship to take the high road to peace, India will meet it more than half the way”.

Afridi powers Pakistan into ICC WT20 finals

Pakistan is in the ICC World Twenty20 final after upsetting South Africa by seven runs at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

In Sunday’s final at Lord’s, Pakistan will meet the winner of Friday’s semifinal between Sri Lanka and West Indies.

Having dismissed the Twenty20 format as “fun cricket” after his side’s opening defeat to England, Pakistan captain Younis Khan revised his opinion after the victory.

“Actually this World Cup is everything for us,” he said. “We’re suffering from everything at the moment, there is a lot of fighting (in Pakistan) so I think this is everything for me and my team.”

Shahid Afridi starred for Pakistan by smashing 51 in 34 balls in a total of 149-4. Then he took 2-16 as previously unbeaten South Africa was limited to 142-5 and extended an 11-year drought in major tournaments.

Pak-India leaders to meet soon in NAM meeting: FO

Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit Wednesday said meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was very positive and the two leaders would meet again in Sharmul Sheikh on the sideline of NAM Summit. Talking to a TV channel, he said the meeting between foreign secretaries of both countries will be held soon.

“We are of the viewpoint that the negotiations should not be conditional as we cannot understand each other without negotiations so we expect to make dialogue result oriented and irreversible”, he added.

Gen. Kayani embarks on day long visit to Germany

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Wednesday left here for Germany on a day-long official visit.During his visit, COAS would meet the senior military leadership and other Government officials of Germany.

Earlier, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani was seen off at Chaklala Airport by Dr Michael Koch, German Ambassador to Pakistan, Lieutenant General Tahir Mahmood, Corps Commander Rawalpindi, Lieutenant General Muhammad Mustafa Khan, Chief of General Staff and other senior military officials.

PCB declines to send U19 to Bangladesh

Pakistan Cricket Board has declined to send its Under-19 to Bangladesh in October next due to security concerns.

“ PCB has conveyed to Bangladesh Cricket Board that it will not be sending Pakistan Under-19 team for a tour in October owing to Security reasons”, said a spokesman of PCB here on Thursday.

In March 2009, Bangladesh Cricket Board had conveyed that it was unable to host Pakistan national team as it was unable to guarantee safety of the visiting team.

Pakistan ensure berth in the semi-finals of T20 World Cup

Pakistan erased the bitter memories of the 2007 World Cup beating Ireland comfortably by 39 runs to ensure passage into the semi-finals of the ICC World T20 Cup at The Oval on Monday. Two year ago in the West Indies, the Pakistanis were knocked out of the quadrennial global event by the unfancied Irish, a disastrous happening that led to the death of their coach Bob Woolmer.

39-member contingent to participate in 1st Asian Youth Games

A 39-member contingent of Pakistan will participate in the 1st Asian Youth Games to be held in Singapore from June 29 to July 7.

According to Pakistan Sports Board, Pakistan’s teams will participate in athletics, football, sailing, swimming and table tennis.

Junior Asia Cup Hockey Tournament : India humble Pakistan 3-1 in semi-final

LAHORE: India defeated Pakistan 3-1 in the first semi-final of the 6th Men’s Junior Asia Cup Hockey in Hyderabad, India on Wednesday. India were leading 1-0 at half-time.

According to information received here, the Pakistan forwards failed to deliver goods as their efforts fizzled out due to lack of finish. In all it was the hosts’ day as their defender Dewaker drag-flicked to forge India ahead in the 10th minute. Thereafter, the exchanges were fought evenly but Pakistan failed to capitalize on chances that came their way.

The Kashmir bus service resumed after a lapse of one-week when a bus carrying sixty-one passengers left Srinagar for Muzaffarabad Thursday morning. Officials said in Srinagar, fifty-eight passengers out of sixty-one were stuck up due to suspension of the service as massive agitation gripped the Kashmir valley against economic blockade imposed by Hindu extremists.

Singh says terrorists harming friendship with Pakistan

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Friday that terrorist incidents such as the attack on Delhi’s embassy in Kabul were intended to harm friendship with Pakistan, but he also urged Islamabad to do more to thwart them.

“Our goal in South Asia is to seek a peaceful, stable and prosperous neighbourhood,” Mr Singh said in his traditional address from the 17th century Red Fort.

امریکی حکومت کے ماہرین کی ایک ٹیم نے جمعہ کو ایسے 13ملکوں کی فہرست جاری کی ہے جنہیں مذہبی آزادی کی ”انتہائی بدترین “ خلاف ورزی کرنے والے ملک قراردیا گیا ہے۔امریکی میڈیا کی رپورٹ کے مطابق امریکی کمیشن کی عالمی مذہبی آزادی کی اس سالانہ رپورٹ میں میانمار، شمالی کوریا،اریٹریا،ایران ،عراق،نائیجریا،پاکستان ،چین،سعودی عرب ،سوڈان ،ترکمانستان،ازبکستان اورویت نام شامل ہیں۔ اس کمیشن نے سفارش کی ہے کہ اوباما انتظامیہ ان ملکوں کوباضابطہ طورپر”خاص تشویش والے ممالک“ (Countries of Particular Concern) قراردے دے۔علاوہ ازیں امریکی ماہرین کی اس ٹیم نے ایک نگرا ں فہرست بھی جاری کی ہے جس میں افغانستان، بیلاروس، کیوبا،مصر،انڈونیشیا،لاو¿س،روس،صومالیہ ،تاجکستان،ترکی اور وینزویلا شامل ہیں۔جس کے مطابق اگرچہ یہ ممالک ”خاص تشویش والے ممالک“میں شامل نہیں تاہم ان کی نگرانی کی ضرورت ہے۔رپورٹ کے مطابق پاکستان میں طالبان کے پے درپے ہونے والی کارروائیوں 2009کی اس سالانہ رپورٹ کے عنوان کی وضاحت کردی۔ امریکہ میں اس طرح کی رپورٹیں اکثر شائع ہوتی رہتی ہیں مگر حیرت کی بات یہ ہے کہ خود امریکہ کے حوالے سے یہ بات نہیں کہی جاتی ہے کہ اس کی حکومت مذہب کے نام پر کس طرح کی خلاف ورزیاں کر رہی ہے۔ یہ بات بھی نہیں کی جاتی کہ امریکہ کی حکومت اور اداروں نے عراق اور افغانستان او راب پاکستان پر اس لیے چڑھائی کر رکھی ہے کہ یہ مسلما ن ممالک ہیں اور امریکی اپنے ایجنڈے کے تحت ا ن ممالک کو فتح کرنا چاہتے ہیں۔
